If It Feels Good Tribute It

Toronto's favorite new venue with a sea-faring theme is doing it again. Having scored big cred-points with the "Just Ace of Spades" and "Just Bohemian Rhapsody" nights, the Boat is going one further and hosting a tribute night to Canrock institution & unlikely teen poster-boys, Sloan.

Described by organizer Dylan Reibling (Wavelength) as "toeing the line between reverence and irreverence", the Sloan Tribute Night will be a cover night that's a little bit out of the ordinary. Not an anniversary of a birth or a death, as the band itself is still actively creating and performing music, the Sloan Tribute Night plans to instead "play with the paradoxical place that Sloan occupies in contemporary culture. By re-imagining classic Sloan favourites in very different ways, the eclectic group of Toronto musicians and noise-smiths will give old favourites new meaning and give Sloan a run for their money".

Sloan Tribute Night is Thursday, February 16th @ the Boat (158 Augusta). Line-up (to date) includes:

The Bicycles - Fun Toronto Popsmiths
Laura Barrett - Quirky Kalimba Tunes
Penny Whistleton - Strip tease!
Dollarama - Bargain Bin Experimentalists
The Chris Murphies - featuring members of The Adorables, Township Expansion, Another Blue Door
Disgrimination - featuring members of No Dynamics, Broken Treefort, Rosazia
Cry Cry Papsmear - demented circus sideshow featuring The Coconut Boys
The Odyssey - a capella noise jams featuring members of Ninja High School (who have the best website ever).
Mack Lawrenz - Casio Guitar breakdowns
(& more TBA)

And who knows, there may just be the unexpected appearance of an actual Sloan or two to give the performers a little coaxing and cajoling.
