Massive vintage clothing archive for sale in Toronto

Vintage hounds making the rounds between Kensington and Ossington: You'll want to make an extra stop in your usual shopping route. Montreal vintage purveyors JackLux took over the former Lomography space at Queen and Portland (536 Queen St. West) earlier this week, reopening the doors for a pop-up shop. The stock: 5,000 pieces of vintage from the 1920s onward, from dresses and coats to tuxedos and shoes, all priced to sell at $80 or less.

As it turns out, the whole lot used to belong to the Quebec government, who had established a massive costuming archive of vintage clothing for film shoots and theatre productions; when the foundation went under a few years ago, JackLux swooped in and bought the whole shebang (200,000 pieces, at last count).

The Quebec film industry's loss is, apparently, our gain; the owners are hoping to liquidate everything in the two-floor space over the next three months. (In short: Jump on that $29.99 party dress from the '50s before someone else does.) They're open Monday through Sunday, 10am to 9pm.
