You'll soon be able to dine underwater near Toronto

You won't have to don a wetsuit or scuba gear to dine under 71,000 tonnes of water. Instead, you'll have to take a trip out to Peterborough's Lock 21 (about an hour and a half away from Toronto) this fall.

Peterborough and the Kawarthas Tourism is trying to bring adventurous eaters out to Lock 21 - the world's highest hydraulic lift lock - on the Trent-Severn Waterway for a unique meal they're calling "Under Water Dining at Lock 21," as the Canadian Press reports.

The tourism group, which is partnering with local food producers, the Trent-Severn Waterway and the Canadian Canoe Museum, brought 12 people out to Lock 21 last month to try out this new-fangled experience.

And they really had to work for their supper; instead of driving out to the lock, the dinner guests had to paddle over in a voyageur canoe. Luckily, as the Canadian Press writes, they were treated to a gourmet feast that included items such as beef tartare, trout and duck eggs.

This setting looks particularly spectacular, considering the locks rise and fall about 20 metres.

If you missed out on eating at Le Pavillon in the abandoned Hearn Generating Station last month, here's your chance to grab food at another industrial site.
