March was an excellent month for restaurant openings in Toronto, especially if you like sandwiches stacked with porchetta or Mexican tortas slathered with black beans and loaded with fried chicken. The array of new offerings include a brewpub, a matcha-centric dessert house and eateries devoted to Italian, Thai and Indian-Israeli cuisines.

Here are new Toronto restaurants you can try out.

Carver
Slow roasted meats are the specialty at this newly opened business on Peter Street. When you glance at the menu, you'll find porchetta and roasted chicken pressed between focaccia or loaded onto baked potatoes.

Torteria San Cosme
Kensington Market is now home to this vibrant Mexican torta shop. Sandwiches stacked with breaded chicken and manchego cheese, or loaded with seared flat iron steak and panela cheese, are the stars, while sides like charros and elote are worth trying as well.

Kub Khao
The newest spin off from Jatujak is this take-out shop at Sheppard and Birchmount. In addition to the usual assortment of curries and noodle soups, you'll find snack foods like Haad Yai-style chicken wings, curry puffs and chicken toast.

Royal Meats
New to CityPlace is this Balkan grill that already has a location in Etobicoke. Royal Meats serves up a selection of skewered meats, chicken, burgers and chevaps, minced beef and lamb rolls.

Pinkerton's Snack Bar
This new Gerrard Street snack bar features a variety of small plates such as tuna poke, pork neck pancakes and otak otak as well as cocktails.

Piano Piano
Formerly Splendido, this newly revamped restaurant now boasts a relaxed atmosphere and a menu featuring Italian spuntino, antipasti, pizza, pasta and meaty mains.

Batch
This brewpub from Creemore Springs has a bottle shop as well as tasting flights at the bar. Food-wise, there's an array of elevated pub fare, including charcuterie boards, smoked wings and burgers, plus pies and soft serve ice creams for dessert.

Knuckle Sandwich
This East York shop slings out sandwiches, salads, soups and poutines. Standouts on the menu include a monstrous buttermilk fried chicken with roasted poblano slaw and a peppercorn bacon poutine.

Tsujiri
Toronto loves matcha and it's obvious thanks to the long lines at this dessert destination, which landed in the newly appointed little Tokyo at Dundas and Bay. Expect to find Tsujiri serving sundaes, shaved ice, pastries and tea.

Fat Beet
Indian-meets-Israeli is the easiest way to describe what's coming out of the kitchen at this new Thornhill restaurant. The menu lists butter chicken thali and samosas alongside a roster of pita sandwiches and vegetable dishes topped with za'atar and sumac.
