We've all heard the saying "April showers bring May flowers," and that phrase couldn't be a better description for the wet weather Toronto's expected to get over this weekend. 

Environment Canada is warning of a "cloudy and rainy weekend" ahead as April finally wraps up. 

The environment agency is forecasting 30 to 70 mm of rainfall by Monday evening over southern Ontario, and the heavy precipitation is set to arrive just in time for several major events across the city. 

In Toronto, Environment Canada says the rain will begin early Friday evening, with total amounts of 10 to 15 mm by the end of the day.

The Weather Network is also forecasting heavy rain in the region throughout the weekend. In Toronto specifically, the network is estimating anywhere from five to 10 mm of rainfall on Saturday, 20 to 25 mm on Sunday, and two to four mm on Monday. 

Several outdoor events are scheduled to take place in the city over the weekend, including the highly-anticipated Maple Leaf Square tailgate for game 6 of playoff series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night. 

The annual Khalsa Day parade in celebration of the Sikh New Year is also taking place on Sunday, with a route that stretches from the CNE grounds to City Hall throughout the afternoon. 

Toronto's annual Bumrun is also taking place on Sunday, which is a 5k walk/run event that raises money for various colon cancer charities. 

Although it'll be a wet and rainy start to the month, the dreary weather is expected to finally clear up mid-week around Wednesday or Thursday.
