What's happening in the GTA (and sometimes beyond):

Concerns are being voiced and debates are materializing over the development of Downsview Park. It was never clear exactly what the plan called for, but as development proceeds it's now a question of how much of what is appropriate for a mixed park, recreational, residential, and industrial land project [G&M]. Hopefully when it's all said and done, the new development makes Downsview a destination that rivals High Park.

Easter schmeaster. Every day is shopping day in "tourist-designated areas" [Sun]. In a city that is made of so many people of mixed beliefs, should retailing rules on religious and statutory holidays be more strictly enforced or done away with entirely? It's a tough one.

A drive down to Cherry Beach this weekend was like an unexpected spurt of serious off-roading and, coincidentally, it turns out that my brief and unpleasant experience was also the topic of today's The Fixer in the Star. This really should be fixed immediately. It's outdoor season, and the pot holes are so bad leading into the parking lot [Star] that they will surely cause cars to break if not remedied.

A very public, emotional roller coaster appears to be nearing an end for the parents of an ill baby [CityNews]. Doctors at Sick Kid's Hospital have declared baby Kaylee unsuitable as a heart donor after learning that despite her prior grave diagnosis, she is able to breathe on her own.

A new library opened and somehow I didn't hear about it until now [Star]! It's a welcome addition to what Christopher Hume describes as a dreary stretch in the city at Jane & Sheppard.
