Your Toronto morning news roundup for Wednesday August 6th, 2008:

A Toronto play based around anti-gay crusader Pastor Fred Phelps is getting some serious attention from across the border, with Pastor Phelps and his congregation planning to come up north to protest what he calls "sodomite propaganda." The attention will be great for ticket sales, but I know we don't need an influx of "God Hates Fags" signs in TO. Keep that hate out of my city.

Former feuding stars Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin have mended their rift and are kicking off a reunion tour of the Cheech and Chong Show — in Toronto. Though be warned, I'd hold off from bringing your bong and your cheeba to Massey Hall for the show.

Running low on gas? Fuel prices are expected to fall on Wednesday, so take your bike today and wait to fill up until tomorrow. And because today is actually Wednesday and not Tuesday like I originally thought, time to fill 'er up!

Hoodlinc, a support system for at-risk youth, recently received an influx of funding for their Project ROSE program helping students stay in school. Despite all the controversy around the group and its founder, any program that helps at-risk youth straighten out their paths needs to be applauded.

We've all heard stories of companies leaving Toronto because the lack of opportunity for growth. Well those stories must be untrue, because Forbes Magazine has just come out with a report praising Toronto and ranking it 10th on a list of the world's most economically powerful cities. Finally, a top ten list we want to be on.

It may be two years late, but the skate park near Ashbridge's Bay may be starting construction soon and is slated for completion in October. Local skateboarders are skeptical, but the park will be a welcome addition to the neighborhood.

The Red Sox and the Yankees are plagued by big-name injuries, and the Jays are winning: do we still have some hope?
