Morning Brew: December 29th, 2006

Your morning news roundup for Friday December 29th, 2006:

The TTC won't be joining the others offering free rides on New Year's Eve because they simply can't afford it (GO, Mississauga, Brampton, York, Durham will be free). Maybe some of the $6million the city is saving due to warmer, snow-free weather should be used to support the initiative and reduce the likelihood of people driving drunk.

It happened in the summer of 2005, but because of its remote location its collapse remained unknown until recently. The Ayles ice shelf, which was one of just six remaining ice shelves in Canada may now pose a risk to oil platforms as it drifts in the water in its new massive island form.

Skiers and snowboarders rejoice? Blue Mountain, Ontario's largest ski resort, has opened 2 of their 34 runs.

While power costs are expected to drop by about 10% in 2007, it looks like the cost of water will go up about 10%. My two newest New Year's resolutions are to rent Waterworld and start swimming lessons.

This is the last Morning Brew of 2006. Shout outs to Sameer Vasta for doing such a great job manning the RSS feeder and bringing us the morning news round-up throughout the year. We all hope you're enjoying life on the other side of the pond!
