Morning Brew: December 18, 2006

Your morning news roundup for Monday December 18th, 2006:

While Time Canada gave the nod to Prime Minister Harper as newsmaker of the year, Time Magazine (US) has declared that their Person of the Year is YOU. Doesn't it feel great to be recognized for all of that time and energy you've invested (i.e. wasted) on your Web2.0 endeavours? Your videos on YouTube, your Flickr photos, and your Myspace earned you the honours, apparently. Mildly interesting twist, or cop out?

Tragedy has been met by more tragedy yesterday when the second young boy involved in last week's pond fall died in hospital.

Hot dogs, sausages, and veggie dogs are the only street food we see downtown. Why not sandwiches, fruit salads, enchiladas, burritos, vegan food choices, and fruits like bananas and oranges? The Star ponders the possibilities with chef Daryl Chow. What ever happened to that hot butter and MSG soaked corn bucket toting Rasta guy?

Former Toronto Police Cheif Julian Fantino is named in a $2.5million lawsuit filed against him, which includes accusations of wiretapping, and conspiring with several of the force's internal affairs investigators.

Sex trade workers concerned about worker safety, violence, and marginalization are taking their case to the courts, in hopes of decriminalizing prostitution. As I flip though the back pages of Eye and Now Magazines, I can't help but scratch my head in confusion.

Toronto-based researchers are claiming a major breakthrough in Type I Diabetes research which may lead to an eventual cure, although whether or not it is curable is still up for debate.
