Parkdale Politics

Get ready to vote tomorrow if you live in the riding of Parkdale High Park. Gerard Kennedy, former MPP and Education Minister, has left the seat to pursue Federal politics, resulting in an Ontario by-election. Polls will be open tomorrow from 9am to 8pm.

It might be a little late in the game, but the politics of this riding are getting heated. Take a moment to look up the candidates and get your vote in. Don't be swayed by how many signs have popped up in the neighborhood; I know some people like to use the 'counting signs' method to determine what the results might be and then go with the flow for a clearer outcome. I can tell you, the first candidate to put up signs in the area may not be represented accurately. Her campaigners put one on the lawn of my high-traffic multi-dwelling home and left a little note in my mailbox essentially saying, "You weren't home but we put on a sign on your lawn anyway."

The current breakdown of seats at Queen's Park: Liberals 70, PC 24, NDP 8. If you ask me, now is a great time to get the Green Party on the board since no other parties can do their typical fear-mongering - this time the majority will not change, but your vote will always send a message.

Candidates include:
Frank de Jong - Green Party of Ontario
Cheri DiNovo- New Democratic Party of Ontario
Stan Grzywna - Family Coalition Party of Ontario
David Hutcheon - Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario
Jim McIntosh - Ontario Libertarian Party
John C. Turmel - Independent
Silvio Ursomarzo - Freedom Party of Ontario
Sylvia Watson - Ontario Liberal Party
