Jeff Skoll named one of Time's 100 most influential people

Morning Brew: May 1, 2006

Your morning news roundup for Monday, May 1, 2006:

Torontonian Jeff Skoll, former president of eBay, joins Steve Nash and Flickr's Caterina Fake as the three Canadians that made Time magazine's list of the year's 100 most influential people. Not surprisingly, all three now live in the USA.

Dalton McGuinty, after months of twiddling his thumbs on the issue, announced on Saturday a $3 million "faith-based" program to stop the gun violence among the city's youth.

It took a national vote that named him as the "Greatest Canadian" for Toronto City Council to realize that it might be a good idea to name a street after Tommy Douglas.

Just as knives started stealing the violent crime spotlight in Toronto, guns made a comeback with four shootings occurring over the weekend

The annual Pugly Awards are open for nominations, meaning architects of ugly buildings in Toronto once again have the chance to win an award.

Everyday Torontonians share their ideas with the Toronto Star on how we can make our city great. The standout suggestion from the bunch remains the downtown Star Trek Urban Resort.
