Titanic Musical Toronto

Titanic musical coming to Toronto

Titanic the musical is on its way to Toronto. The revival of the 1997 Tony Award winning production is set to be remounted by Thom Southerland, and will dock in Toronto at the Royal Alex from July 22 to Aug. 31 before heading to Broadway. It's good news for theatre fans who like their musicals with a side of tragedy (always the best combination for such overtly melodramatic productions), as the show has been better reviewed in its recent form than it was when it originally opened (this despite the subsequent Tony awards).

Toronto's never enjoyed a big budget version of the musical, so this production from David Mirvish with Barry and Fran Weissler is sure to draw big crowds this summer. Perhaps now, some 17 years after the release of the James Cameron film blockbuster by the same name, we've all collectively recovered enough to enjoy what is actually a compelling and dramatically rich tale.
