Toronto yoga studio's closure causes Twitter storm

Bad karma? That's what some are saying about Toronto's YogaBe studio after it suddenly shut down yesterday, leaving many dedicated customers in the lurch.

Besides ceasing operations, YogaBe, which was formerly (and conveniently) located in the PATH, announced it wouldn't offer refunds to those who already purchased memberships or passes. We reached out to the studio for comment, but at publication time, we've yet to hear back.

Many took to Twitter to vent their frustrations (see below).

Luckily, the Vancouver-based YYoga jumped on the opportunity and started offering free passes to those left with a yoga studio membership, but no place to go.

UPDATE:

YogaBe's owner Laura Baron Kastner replied to our request for comment. "Closing a business is not a happy time for anyone. Most of all I have been concerned about our members, the YogaBe community which we built -- they as much as anything were YogaBe," she said, via email.

"And because I know they feel the loss as greatly as I, who literally have invested everything in this, I am currently working out arrangements with other area fitness and wellness providers to help these people find a new yoga home, and hopefully honour, in some way, their existing arrangements with us."
