Matthew Dear's Big Hands with Telefon Tel Aviv, LIVE!

Almost out of the blue, a great little show hits up Wrongbar this Thursday October 16th.

Matthew Dear's Big Hands band with Telefon Tel Aviv, two awesome electronic acts, and both of them are performing live!

I've been waiting to see Telefon Tel Aviv since 2001 when they released their first album Fahrenheit Fair Enough. Their glitchy atmospheric beats became almost the soundtrack to my university years, and were the door that lead me to a whole new spectrum of music I hadn't yet explored.

They've played a few times at Mutek but I always seem to miss them and always hear how good they were live.

I was very excited to hear their new album Immolate Yourself is coming out in January 2009 under Ellen Alien's label BPitch Control. Ellen has set a high standard with all the releases that are coming out from her label, so I'm expecting this one to be a goodie.

It's rumored to be heavy on analogue synths, which is always good, so I can't wait to see what they'll be doing when playing live.

Here's a little sample from their upcoming album.

As for Matthew Dear, I like his textured electronic pop, especially his releases on Ghostly International, but sometimes I think he's a bit overrated. I think he gets away with some stuff just because he is a poster child of techno. The last couple of times I've seen his DJ sets I've been a bit disappointed.

Nevertheless, when it comes to playing live, his shows are always great and don't come around that often, so I'm looking forward for tomorrow night.
