Fight For Your Art Party

Like myself, Marinko Jareb (above) has more than one nickname, but it's the one on his legal documents he's working to keep clean. The DJ, audio and visual collage artist and Exclaim! writer is raising funds for a graffiti charge he now faces after he stenciled lions, stars and butterflies in spray-paint on the sidewalk outside the St. Catharines Niagara Artists' Company (NAC) headquarters.

With support from that community and his Toronto crews alike, Jareb and a host of DJs, video artists and live painters have come together for an "old school party," an event Jareb also describes as a "boogie down function, art sale and legal fundraiser" this Saturday at the Concord Cafe.

A veteran audio and visual provider at past events like Promise Cherry Beach Sundays, and the Harvest and OM festivals, Jareb, a.k.a. DJ Machine or Stinky Marinky the Croatian Sensation, has along with partner Daya Lye put together a night of downright bootylicious beats n' treats for your eyes and ears:

The evening's DJs bring you an eclectic mix of electro (Drumatix), "death disco" ($tink*$ki, also a.k.a. Jareb), hipster house (SuperFantastic's Andrew & Sona underground classics (Boreal stalwart Ben Marshall a.k.a. HiJack), "dubby nice-ness and 'ting" from Violet and classic hip hop from local innovator Ef Sharp.

Meanwhile, feast your eyes on live painting Yehudah Cullman and Mat Vizbulis and the video projections of NAC artist Fame and the one and only Satan McNuggit.

And of course, you can support the cause directly by buying some of Jareb's art to take home, with a range of available pieces such as photographs (subjects inlcude Cherry Beach Sundays, Boreal, Harvest, art openings), stencil graffiti works, collage and vinyl record artwork.
