Toronto-Norwegian Music Exchange

Last night The Russian Futurists opened up for Annie at The Mod Club Theatre. The Toronto act played works mostly from Our Thickness and played them reasonably well. The songs were a bit repetative and the base seemed like it wasn't sound checked, but by the last song they had a good dance following at the front of the stage. The four guys in front of their keyboards visually reminded me of Kraftwerk, even if their vocals were less man-machine and more Ben Gibbard.

When Annie bunny-bopped onto stage you would have had no idea how tired she actually was. She told us later that she had been touring for months, but tried to still bring some energy to this show. Her cute Norwegian bubbly disco-pop, thumping and deeply melodic, inspired some furious dancing near the stage. Several satisfying house jams gave the tiny Scandanavian a moment to rest. Quite a good show in all, but Annie could have brought more confidence to the stage. She was forgiven in the end for her cute dancing.

More photos after 'the jump'.
