Pop Noir at Lot 16 Bar

Too tired to try to get into the Creeping Nobodies EP release show at Trinport last night (which I'm sure was an awesome show), I decided to have a couple drinks in one of my favourite bars in the West Queen West area, Lot 16 Bar. Lot 16 is just east of Gladstone on Queen, and while sometimes I feel a bit young, I love the quieter atmosphere when I want to hang out and have a real conversation. It turned out it was DJ Lawrence's Pop Noir night, and he plays an eclectic mix of British and Canadian indie pop and shoegazer.

Pop Noir's not a dance night, but more like a music appreciation night. More interesting is that Pop Noir gets local bands to play mini sets in between dj sets, and last night The Daybreak, a pretty awful band, drove us out into the crisp night in search of a more pleasant bar experience. I really like the idea of the night, but the band's high pitched, too loud, out of tune vocals were unbearable. That said, I will definitely check out the night again, because DJ Lawrence's sets were great.
