6 Toronto restaurants that closed on the last day of 2015

Not all Toronto restaurants were celebrating on New Year's Eve. The end of the year spelled lease renewals for some while others chose the onset of 2016 as a way to mark the end of an era. Many of you will be missed.

Here are six Toronto restaurants that shut their doors before the new year.

Glas Wine Bar
The Leslieville wine bar closed its doors just shy of the new year and by spring will be replaced by new restaurant, Greta Solomon's Dining Room.

Feast
Not to be confused with the new meal delivery service or the food truck, this gourmet food store announced on Facebook it would close up shop on West Queen West on New Year's Eve. They're looking to relocate but have yet to announce a new address.

Pizza Ego
The walk-in pizza shop on Bloor opened in the fall but has already shuttered. With established Annex pizza houses and new competition from places like Za Pizzeria, the competition for U of T munchies is rather stiff.

Caffe Doria
The popular Rosedale restaurant was taken over last year by The Food Dudes (the folks behind Omaw and Pantry). The closure is all part of a grand scheme that'll see a new concept introduced to the neighbourhood sometime in the new year.

Splendido
The Harbord Street restaurant known for fine service and tasting menus threw its final blowout on New Year's Eve. Splendido set the bar for high end dining in Toronto for 25 years.

King Falafel
The falafel shop at Eglinton and Bathurst served its last shawarma on New Year's Eve after almost four decades in business. The plaza in which it is located is primed for redevelopment.

Correction: An earlier version of this post erroneously cited the closure of Backwoods Smokehouse, which is, in fact, merely closed until mid-January.
