Toronto canning company looks to open rental kitchen

Have you ever tried to can something in a small kitchen? It can be a royal pain in the ass, what with the whole sterilization process and all. So if you're into this sort of thing, it's exciting to learn that local company Manning Canning is looking to make its kitchen available on a rental basis to would-be canners. It's all part of a Kickstarter project that involves two commercial kitchen spaces on Vanderhoof Avenue in Leaside. One will be a general purpose space with ample space for prep that's made available 24/7 for rental, while the other will be a dedicated canning space.

The project has a $35,000 goal, of which a little more than $8,000 has currently been raised. Donation perks include kitchen rental time, custom-made aprons, food tours, and for $8,000 a 1966 MG convertible. One suspects that's the equivalent of throwing the kitchen sink at this funding drive. With 33 days left to meet the goal, this one has a good chance of actually happening, which would add some much needed rental kitchen space to the city and make canning lovers mighty happy.
