Taxi protest paralyzes Toronto streets

The great taxi protest of 2015 is well underway. As promised, many of Toronto's cab drivers converged at four designated points around the city at 7:30 a.m. this morning. They're currently rolling through the streets, horns-a-blaring and refusing to pick up passengers. Many cars are decked out with "Ban UberX" or "Enforce Bylaws" signs.

The protest is scheduled to last until 7 p.m., but before then, the taxis will circle around Queen's Park and city hall.

While the city staff are set to release a report in regards to regulating UberX by spring 2016, the Toronto Star writes that taxi drivers want the city to shut down the ride-sharing service in the interim. Mayor Tory, however, says this won't happen.

For today though, it's looking like the taxis will continuing protesting. Many Torontonians are taking to Twitter to share their frustrations, noting that areas around both airports and the DVP seem particularly congested.
