BIXI sale Toronto

Get a BIXI membership on the cheap

I don't make it habit to write about sales — probably because it's difficult not to sound like a marketer or someone in PR when doing so — but I'll make an exception to spread the word on half-priced BIXI memberships being offered by Groupon. Since it went live over 1000 people have gotten in on the deal, which at the time that I write this has just over 12 hours left (it ends at midnight).

If there's been a key complaint I've heard repeated about BIXI, it's that the bike-sharing program is too expensive, that one could sooner buy a beater bike that's safe to lock-up downtown rather than pay the $95 membership fee. Never mind that the reasoning behind that argument misses the point of BIXI — short-hops when you're already out, no need to lock the bike up, no need to do maintenance, etc. — but the sale price of $47 should seriously diminish the degree to which cost is a factor in one's decision to sign up. There, that wasn't that much marketing-speak, was it?

Let us know in the comments whether or not the lower price will entice you to try out bike sharing in TO.
