Extensive Tornado Damage in Vaughan

The damage from the tornado that struck in Vaughan (just north of Toronto) is still being assessed.

Some incredible aerial shots by photographer Tom Podolec on Flickr show the extent to which the tornado damaged a number of homes.

Injury reports so far are surprisingly few (one man suffered from a heart attack this morning, and an 11-year old boy was killed in the Town of Durham yesterday).

Given the severity of the damage (some 200 homes may need to be demolished, and an additional 600 were damaged), it's amazing and quite relieving that more people weren't serious hurt or killed. A state of emergency was declared, and Mayor David Miller has pledged to provide any and all aid the City of Toronto can.

More photos, showing damage in Woodbridge, are also on Flickr.
