Toronto Mayoral Candidates and the Web

It would be really great if our mayoral candidates (or at least one of them), demonstrated they understood the power of the internet as a communication and community building channel. While something akin to a Howard Dean type campaign with Meetups, online fundraising and a blog would be ideal, it's probably more effort than candidates can handle.

Perhaps behind door number two could be something like the site from Chuck Pennacchio, a democrat running for US Senate in Pennsylvania. The blog and the archived media are a good start, but the best part is this homemade video he posted on YouTube. It's fresh and honest; I understand what he stands for and feel that he's communicating directly with me and his online audience.

It would definitely be a step-up from this standard ho-hum web site from Jane Pitfield. Hopefully we can at least count on our savvy City Idols to lead the way.
