Gallery Space: Double Header Thursday Night

Aug 17th -- This week in the Gallery Space:

While much of our communal artistic energies this week have gone into attending and participating in the AIDS 2006 Cultural Program , there are still a couple shows opening up worth noting.

Tonight, TSV Gallery presents a member spotlight on Toronto-based artist, Jesika Joy, with works by Pipilotti Rist and Emelie Chhangur. Show opens at 7pm. This video program, cleverly entitled (Mis)recognizing Desire - Disiring (Mis)recognition, explores eroticism, feminism and desire.

Also tonight, SAVAC (South Asian Visual Artists Collective) bring Soft Restraint to the G+ Galleries (50 Gladstone Ave). The exhibit features sculptures by Ruby Chishti and Erin O'Hara. Both artists worked specifically with recycled materials to create distressed, recycled bodies. In the words of SAVAC, "These bodies reflect, without resignation, the restraints of everyday living, from gender subjugation and social indoctrination to the very limits of our physical selves and our impending death and potential rebirth."
