geeks gathering

Ad Astra was on April fool's weekend this year, and it was also the 25th anniversary for Toronto's science fiction convention. They are called 'cons' for short among the 'fen', (not 'fans' because that's TOO common). Fandom is really a one-way ticket to nerdom, if you couldn't tell by all the special 1337 terms, and I love it.

Where else do you find workshops with titles like "Advanced Makeup and Prosthetics for the Average Monster Maker" and "Hydrocarbon Civilizations" alongside rows of zine tables with offerings like Ladyscientist. I'm not the kind of person who likes to travel across the continent so I can dress up in Star Trek uniforms, but I don't mind watching.

I picked up a flyer for Gaylaxicon, happening in T.O. this June 16-18. All this nerdiness and gay too! I can't wait.
