Your morning news roundup for Wednesday March 19th, 2008:

Apparently all it takes to get stabbed these days in Toronto is to say hello to the wrong person while on a TTC bus. Is this a wacky, isolated case, or is this city so messed up that this kind of thing could happen again?

A knowledge of martial arts is little defense against a bad idea (i.e. a 400lb lion). During a creative photo shoot at the Bowmanville zoo for Star-owned magazine Desi Life, the lion tackled and injured the human subject and the Toronto Star has it on (not as dramatic as Fox TV) video.

The Ryerson student who was facing potential expulsion after he ran a Facebook study group will not be expelled after all. A black mark on his academic record, taking a course in academic misconduct, and a zero on an assignment worth 10% of his course grade still seem like steep punishment in my mind.

Students at UofT's Scarborough campus have begun voting on the much debated U-Pass discounted monthly TTC transit passes for students. The controversy stems not from the amount of the discount, but from the conditions of the deal - all student would pay for the passes in their school fees whether they use transit or not, and there would be no opt-out. The results are expected on Friday.

If you support the Liberal party, here's a reason not to announce your political views to the public by putting campaign signs on your front yard - you may wake up to find your car keyed and tires slashed.
