Public Works Committee approves $150 fine for illegal rush hour parking
The Public Works Committee voted in favour of an increased fine for drivers who park/stop on main streets during rush hour in an attempt to alleviate gridlock on Toronto streets. Here's the lowdown from the Post:
"The higher penalty, up from the current $40-to-$60 fine, is an attempt to ease bottlenecks created by drivers that pull over at will, despite it being against city bylaws.
The higher fine would apply to arterial roads where stopping, standing or parking is now banned from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. It would apply to a driver that blocks a bike lane at any hour."
The new fine will go to a vote at the next city council meeting.
