Rossi camp says co-chair is not in talks to join Rob Ford
The Rossi camp released a statement this morning clarifying the rumour that campaign co-chair John Capobianco is considering switching allegiances.
Firstly, Capobianco said, he did not meet Nick Kouvalis, deputy campaign manager for Rob Ford, in Tim Hortons. Nor has he ever; that was apparently a vicious, unsubstantiated falsity. We clear? Good.
Capobianco said he stopped by the Ford family's Deco Labels and Tags on his way home from work one day and chatted briefly with Nick Kouvalis and Doug Ford. When asked if Rossi was dropping out, Capobianco said he most certainly was not. He was then asked if, hypothetically, Rossi did bail, he would join the Ford camp. Capobianco said it is "difficult to speculate, but [his] inclination would be to do so in the event that Rocco left the race."
He clarified that he did not ask if the Ford camp would pay him if he switched sides. Capobianco said money was not discussed at all during the 35-minute conversation.
So there you have it; Rossi isn't leaving (yet), no municipal campaign treason (yet), no Timmy's double double, and the Globe and Mail, where the story was originally printed, has proven itself a biased rag by running a story full of "numerous errors, unsubstantiated rumours from unnamed sources" about "a meeting that did take place."
