Record numbers vote in advanced Toronto polls
Toronto voters have turned out in record numbers to cast early ballots during advanced weekday and weekend polls.
A total of 77,397 people have already voted in the municipal election, obliterating the 2006 election advanced poll turnout of 42,413 people. That's an increase of 82.5 per cent.
A total of 61,262 people voted this weekend, almost double the typical number. The question is, are these gung-ho voters furious gravy-train interceptors? Stop-Rob-Ford-enthusiasts? Or Joe Pants loyalists? In any case, it's clear Torontonians have taken an interest in municipal politics seldom seen before.
