Before I was a Raver, there was Clutch

We all go through phases in our lives, especially when it comes to music preferences. I'm digging indie and jazz these days, but it wasn't long ago that I was crazy about downtempo, techno, and tech-house. It was, however, quite a long time ago that I went through my long-haired, mosh-pit-loving, heavy music phase.

Saturday night, I'll be be taking a bit of a journey back in time courtesy of punk/metal/stoner/conspiracy theorist rock outfit Clutch.

Way back in 1993, they put out their first LP Transnational Speedway League: Anthems, Anecdotes and Undeniable Truths, and I was instantly a fan. Lyrically bizarre, and aggressive enough to safely allow me to let off steam, I remained a fan and bought their second full-length, Clutch, in 1995. Shortly thereafter, I went off to university, cut my hair, and became a raver.

The return of Clutch performing live at a sold out show in Toronto means that I have lots of music from a bunch of newer albums to catch up on - something I'm looking forward to doing before the weekend.

Inertia Presents...
