Less Coke, More Popcorn at Toronto Italian Film Festival

The Toronto Italian Film Festival kicked off it's 9th year last night at the Bloor Cinema with the screening of 7km from Jerusalem.

The film is about an Italian advertising executive who is soul searching after losing his job and marriage. He flies to Jerusalem where he runs into Jesus. Somewhere along the line Jesus takes a sip from a can of Coke, a scene that has gained the film some notoriety and sparked protests from (if you can believe it) Coke. Apparently the scene has been fixed in post-production as Jesus is now swigging from a red can of non-descript soda.

Not to be left out, the audience last night was also consuming massive amounts of liquid sugar and popcorn, so much so that the start of the film was delayed so we could wait for everyone in line at the concession stand, or so we were told.

The Toronto Italian Film Festival continues through this Sunday.
