The big box fashion stores have firmly settled in the most eastern part of Queen west. Most of the independent shops you have come to love aren't closing down, they have just moved west. Parkdale is attracting more businesses to the area and one of those shops is Made you Look.

The store features over 50 local jewellery designers that focus mostly in metalwork. All the jewellery is handcrafted. The diverse group of artists ensures that there is something at Made you Look for everyone. The display cases are jammed packed with jewellery. You'll need to spend some time at this store in order to take it all in.

Conversation starting pieces are what you will find at Made you Look. Traditional materials like brass, silver and gold are used in new and innovated ways. Fresh and unique jewellery is made from handmade glass, rhinestones, pearls, semiprecious stones, glass beads, resin and wood.

Not surprisingly, Made you Look has jewellery for all occasions and they make great birthday or anniversary gifts. Custom pieces are available also, which is perfect for bridal party accessories, wedding and engagement rings. Getting married or not, if you can't find what you are looking for, someone probably can make it for you. You can work closely with the artist to make your idea come to life. I can almost guarantee that anyone can find something to love. I found many things and I'm pretty hard to please.

Made you Look opened over 3 years ago by owner Sarah Dougall. She took an exercise from school and made it a reality. It was nice to see some familiar local designers like

Moonrox, Buttercup Days, Smitten Kitten (who makes those colourful brooches pictured) and Marmalade. The store has really opened my eyes to a number of talented artists.

Another exciting feature of Made you Look is the in house studio. 12 artists manufacture and sell their jewellery on the premises. The studio is equipped with a wide selection of tools and equipment. Each designer has a secure storage locker for personal belongs. With the studio open 24 hours for the residents there is also a kitchen for keeping the creative juices humming along. Made you Look creates a creative and co-operative environment where designers can learn from each other. Sounds like a great gig and that's why many emerging artist are trying to sign up.
