Caplansky's Deli

Caplansky's Deli Runs out of Meat, Re-Stocks and Offers 2 for 1

Last Saturday's Globe and Mail article about the new Caplansky's Deli inside Little Italy's Monarch Tavern was both a boon and a bust for proprietor Zane Caplansky.

It seems the wave of interest and sentiment surrounding the re-emergence of a downtown deli really brought the crowds out on Tuesday for the launch - so much so that the new deli's entire first week of supply was gobbled up in one day. On Wednesday, Caplansky was left with no other choice but to close.

The good news though is that there will be plenty of more smoked meat and brisket to be had in the days to come. Caplansky wrote blogTO to let us know he plans to re-open the deli next Thursday, June 19th; but starting tomorrow at lunch time and running through to the re-opening next Thursday he'll be hanging out at the Monarch Tavern handing out 2 for 1 coupons to anyone who stops by for lunch.

It's his thoughtful, generous way of making it up to the many disappointed customers who came by hoping for something smoked and meaty on rye but had to settle for a veal sandwich next door.
