Barcode My Heart

Every time I jet down on College street, I see the forever stalled "Inn On College" that stirs the grave of one of Toronto's best deceased bars: Barcode, and the former Ted's Wrecking Yard. Not only were we stripped of a relaxed, well-sized hangout with perfect live and mixed music, but now we are left with nothing but a pending project.

What is stopping the 549 College location from finishing up to be a cozy Pub meets Boutique Hotel? The owner of the building has refused to sell the property to the moguls of Queen West/Bathurst's The Paddock, leaving them in pursuit of a different location.

It's true that Ted's Wrecking Yard resurrected a few doors West and is keen on preserving a casual atmosphere (despite being way too chilly before it fills up), but a piece of my youth was left imbedded on the former soil of 549 College st, and the tarpaulin-drapes that blow in the wind are just a constant reminder of what once was. Saturday's Globe also has the goods on the sitch at the Inn.
