Taxis to shut down streets in Toronto tomorrow
Toronto's taxi operators will be taking their beef with Uber to the streets tomorrow morning in an effort to push the city to regulate the ride sharing service sooner.
As of 7:30 a.m. tomorrow, many of Toronto's taxi drivers will be protesting, blocking roadways on a route that'll take them all across the city, and eventually to Queen's Park and City Hall.
Last week, a small group staged a hunger strike in Nathan Phillips Square, warning that they'd shut down the city on December 9 if their demands weren't met.
"I'm sure there'll be a cab shortage tomorrow, because there will be a lot of people that are going to be joining this demonstration," said president of the Fleet Operators Association Sam Moini to the Globe and Mail.
According to the Globe, Beck Taxi is encouraging its drivers to avoid the protest.
Earlier this year on September 30, Toronto city council voted to start looking at the possibility of regulating Uber. A report is due back next year.
