Toronto Ghost Caption William James

Make a funny with an archival photo

The City of Toronto Archives are a gold mine of fascinating snapshots from our city's past and thanks to the online search facility many of images are easy to access. A fun quirk of the system is the website's tendency to include anomalous pictures with no apparent connection to one's search terms among the results.

I hang onto these surprising photographic gems in the hope of one day finding a use for them. Sadly, though, I've come to realize most will never see the light of day unless I intervene, so it's caption competition time.

This light-hearted double-exposure trick taken by William James turned up out of thin air last week during one of my searches last week. Unleash your trenchant wit in the comment section below to earn the respect of your peers and liven up this quiet Sunday afternoon. Or just marvel at what passed for Photoshop-style trickery back in the day.
