What's happening in the GTA:

The strike at York University took a turn for the even worse this weekend, when a package labeled with the words "I AM A BOMB" was intentionally left on a TTC bus headed for the school. After causing much concern and evacuation chaos, three people have been charged, and so far none are claiming that it was an art project.

Toronto city council likely won't be approving an exciting variety of ethnic foods for their street food cart pilot project. Instead we're looking at a list of health board approved foods that include bagels, fruit, nuts, veggie burgers, and (here comes excitement!) tabbouleh salad. Sometimes paranoia about public safety makes living in this city a truly boring, disappointing, and embarrassing experience.

If Toronto got a second NHL hockey team, it could immediately be the 3rd most valuable team in the league, after the Leafs and Rangers, at somewhere between $400-$600million. Think of the additional designers suits MLSE execs could buy with that kind of moolah!

As the Ontario economy continues to tank and jobs continue to be cut, concerns grow because EI programs aren't what they used to be. Unlike during the recession in the early '90s, this time around far more workers aren't eligible for long-running employment insurance packages. It's predicted that far more people are going to be relying on Welfare to stay afloat.

A former Toronto police officer is in custody following the death of his wife Susan Ryan, a well-known real estate agent and active community member in Mississauga. This marks the 25th homicide in the west end suburb this year.
