Your morning news roundup for Tuesday October 2nd, 2007:

John Tory is backing down (and wisely so) on his faith-based school funding push. He's now saying that the move would go to a free vote in the legislature rather than simply be implemented by his government if elected.

Freaky weather has its rewards. 2007 may produce the best wines ever for Ontario winemakers, which means that their high pricing may be a little closer to actually being justifiable (but not quite).

Finally the media is reporting on the major transit problem that made getting around during Nuit Blanche nearly impossible. The TTC was overwhelmed with (mostly underwhelmed) people.

OPP are flexing their muscles and exercising their new powers to immediately impound cars of asinine drivers caught speeding at more than 50km/h over the limit. Keep it up, please - these drivers shouldn't be allowed on our roads.

Will a big box Home Depot make its home in Queen West? How would this go over?
