World Cup 2010

Toronto's World Cup Warriors: the Uruguayan

The Team: Uruguay

World Cup History: Have won the World Cup twice, in 1950 and in the very first tournament in 1930.

First round schedule: France 0 - Uruguay 0 (June 12), South Africa (June 16, 2:30 pm), Mexico (June 22, 10 am)

The Fan: Salomon Salvador, 26

Occupation: Bookkeeper

Favourite player: Diego Forlan

How far do you think your team will go in the tournament?: I really think they will come out of the group stage. I'm hoping they might be able to pull of an upset and win one or two of the knockout rounds.

What's the key to your team's success this year?: Goals. Uruguay has a few guys up front, Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez, that can put the ball in. If they get on a roll, they could surprise a lot of people.

Where will you be watching the games?: I don't really have a set place yet, but I'll probably end up somewhere on College st. for most of the matches.

Any pre-game rituals?: A few drinks to calm the nerves.

Which team is your most hated rival and why?: Argentina is a big one. Uruguay and Argentina have one of the oldest and most storied football rivalries in the world. Brazil is up there too. Uruguay beat Brazil in Rio de Janeiro at the 1950 World Cup to claim its second title. That game is still one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history.
