'Go Canada Go' at TD Centre Courtyard

Last night I attended the inauration of a temp skating rink within the TD Centre courtyard -- yes, right in the middle of the financial district. The "Go Canada Go" event, which also celebrated our olympic ice victories, featured a number of figure skating performances as well as good ol' hockey.

Former Maple Leafs like Ron Ellis & Rod Seiling were in attendance (ones who actually won Stanley Cups) and World Champion figure skaters Kurt Browning and Donald Jackson also performed along with a number of upcoming figure skaters.

Hockey fans can now skip to the bottom...

Figure skating being my secret pleasure/expertise (watched way too much as a child), I made sure to get a spot along the boards to watch the performances.

Jackson blew me away with his effortless skate after some 40 years since his podium moment. I can't even jump like that now - on solid ground - and I'm in my 20's. Damn.

Kurt, well, is always a lot of fun to watch. I stopped following figure skating altogether when he retired in '94.

And back to hockey: Perhaps you aren't about to bring the Cup back to T.O. , but if you have any hockey skills whatsoever you may want to listen to this: Until March 9th, the rink will host lunch hour shoot-offs in which participants can win "big" prizes (no idea what) including $50,000 cash.

More info, etc, on the Go Canada Go website.
