Zaki Ibrahim's A Global Diva

I was listening to CBC Radio the other day and heard a track that made me sit up and say, "Damn, WHO is that?"

The song was "Daylight" and the artist was Toronto-based R&B/Soul singer Zaki Ibrahim.

Being the resourceful dude that I am, I googled her and discovered that she's been doing the underground thing for a minute now. Her Myspace has got some joints that immediately caught my ear. She's got this Floetry new wave soul thing going on that both cool and mellowed out at the same time.

She's the daughter of South African anti-apartheid activist and percussionist Zane Ibrahim, which explains her social conscience and overall soul. Ibrahim will be a part of the next week's Global Divas concert which I hope to check out. It's a benefit event for St. Stephen's Community House youth drop-in program.
