Guu Annex

Guu coming back to Toronto and opening in Parkdale

Guu might have introduced many Torontonians to the Japanese izakaya, but as of last November, this west coast-based chain disappeared from the city.

That's because the Kitanoya Marketing Corp., which owns the name Guu, and the Kinka Family Inc. (which licensed it) split up. The remaining Toronto-area Guu restaurants changed names to become Kinka Izakaya. But now it looks like Guu's coming back.

Guu Toronto popped back on to Facebook and Instagram earlier this month to announce it'd be opening up in Parkdale at 1314 Queen St. W. inside the old Porzia space.

While the izakaya has yet to confirm its opening date, it'll likely start serving up small plates soon considering Guu's part of Kid Koala's Luminato-affiliated 66 Wheels food, bike and music tour this Sunday.
