Fire Station 311 Toronto

Inside Fire Station 311

Fire Station 311 at 20 Balmoral Avenue was one of two on on the Doors Open 2011 list. As architecturally interesting as the structure is — it's variously labelled as an example Romanesque Revival, Arts & Crafts, and/or Queen Anne style — the real fun is getting to see the firetruck and the firefighters' gear waiting to be put into action. Alas, we weren't allowed to take a slide down the pole, but it was still pretty cool to check out the interior of a station for more than the standard few seconds you get when they're parking the trucks.
