Toronto: The Wild West of the North?


As the Toronto Board of Trade celebrates its 162nd birthday, Public Affairs Manager Glen Stone has taken a moment to reflect on how wild, corrupt and unruly Toronto was in 1845.

No police force, a pub for every 150 people (population 15,000), unsolved murders, riots, and city-wide fires were just a sampling of the everyday chaos that was Toronto the old.
