Morning Brew: December 28th, 2006

Your morning news roundup for Thursday December 28th, 2006:

The ice has come. Black ice was to blame for a 20 vehicle smash-up on Bayview Ave yesterday. Salt trucks are out there but not always ahead of you, so keep your heads up and be careful on the roads.

The ice is coming. The icy cold weather that threatens the homeless is just around the corner. Why are Beaches area residents threatening legal action against a proposed Out of the Cold shelter in their neighbourhood? That's cold!

The ice is coming too late. Ice wine makers in Eastern Canada and Quebec have worries that this year's yeild and quality may be affected by the unusually warm weather this year. Ontario vineyards are less concerned and BC ice wine makers are having an early harvest.

A veteran police officer is in hot water after he uttered death threats over the phone. It's still not clear what the context of the Dec23rd conversation was or who was threatened.

Police have released a photo of a Parkdale area murder suspect's neck tattoo. What started as a minor argument turned into cold blooded murder, and the shooter is still on the lam.

More than 100 Toronto-area residents were arrested for drug-related offenses in the latest sweep of "Project Rocker". The news comes as Correctional Services Canada released statistics revealing that some 850 convicts are on the lam nationwide. Will more people be locking their doors and less people smoking Mary Jane tonight?
