Toronto Gets Low Grade on Smog

Morning Brew: October 11, 2006

Your morning news roundup for Wednesday, October 11, 2006:

The Toronto Environmental Alliance has given Toronto a C-minus in the smog report card this year, giving the city a worse grade than I got in high school math. But just barely.

Dave Wilson was re-elected as head of the Toronto Police Association by a very slim margin, prompting calls for a recount. A bit like when GWB lost won the presidential election in 2000.

Ended up getting caught in a transit delay like I did yesterday on your way home from work? Blame it on a suspicious piece of luggage that shut down Donlands subway station.

Ignatieff skipped a Liberal leadership debate in Toronto yesterday, not realizing that approval ratings in politics change as quickly as the costumes in a Bollywood movie.

Have you ever seen $2 million in cash? Well, administrators at Oshawa's University of Ontario Institute of Technology just got a whole lot of colored paper bills to go through as EP Taylor donated the huge sum yesterday.

LeDrew kicked off his mayoral campaign yesterday in the same way every other candidate does it: by making promises he has no chance or interest in keeping once he's elected.

Remember that sunny weekend we just had? Well forget it, because a winter full of snow is definitely on its way, starting with a cold front moving in later this week.
