This Week in Theatre: April 1, 2008

Don't worry, I'm not going to try to slip in some April Fool's version of a play listing, so you can believe all the listings here - well, unless I've fallen victim to an April Fool's joke...

If a play doesn't have a description it has been described in a previous entry.

Shows are listed after the jump.

Alchemy Studio Theatre
All's Well that Ends Well, Alchemy Studio (133 Tecumseth Avenue) March 26 - April 13.
There are two Shakespeare productions listed here today, one comedy, and then there's this one, where no one really can decide, is it a comedy, is it a tragedy, is it a comedy, is it a tragedy, is it a comedy, is it a tragedy - I suspect it doesn't much matter, Shakespeare seemed to be pretty decent at both.

Theatre francais de Toronto

L'Homme Invisible/The Invisible Man, Berkely Street Theatre (26 Berkeley Street) March 26 - April 13.
This show is about a man from Timmins who speaks both French and English and has trouble reconciling the two voices. Although it helps if you speak French at least a bit when watching this one, I did hear from someone who doesn't speak French who said they enjoyed it.

Theatre Smith-Gilmour
Mansfield Project - Factory Studio (125 Bathurst Street) March 15 - April 13
Rumour has it that this is the show that will be covered in this week's Thursday Theatre Review...

Curtain Call Players
Bye Bye Birdy, Fairview Library Theatre (35 Fairview Mall Dr) March 27 - April 05
This musical is of the light and fluffy variety, with music that might be called rockabilly. One of those broadway classics you keep hearing about, this time done by a local community theatre.

Canstage
Fire, Baluma Appel Theatre (27 Front Street East), March 20 - April 19

Diesel Playhouse - 56 Blue Jays Way
Evil Dead - The Musical, February 14-June 14

Paranormal Show, March 25 - May 03
Apparently this is "a Spectacular assortment of Supernatural feats and a bizarre twist on Sideshow Feats .. Loaded with audience participation and laughs galore..." Also apparently you're only going to be using the edge of your seat, which frankly doesn't sound that comfortable to me, but you know, to each their own.

Factory Theatre - 125 Bathurst St
Beyond Mozambique, March 30 - May 4
Who can resist George F. Walker? I mean, sure it doesn't sound like a happy fun show, but with Walker you know you're always going to get a couple laughs at least, and there's a damn good chance you're going to get to exercise your brain a bit too. This one is about six folks hiding out trying to escape their past and seeking redemption, but plans are being thrown out of whack because of a local uprising that is about to break loose.

Hart House Theatre - 7 Hart House Circle
Stephen and Mr. Wilde, Feb 28 - April 08

Soulpepper - Young Centre for the Performing Arts (Distillery District)
As You Like It, Feb 27 to April 19

The Odd Couple, Feb 27 to April 19

Tarragon Theatre - 30 Bridgman Ave
Extra Space -
Fall, March 18 - April 27

Main Space -
Democracy, Feb 26 to April 06

Theatre Passe Muraille - 16 Ryerson Ave
Last Days of Graceland (No direct link because the TPM website no longer allows it) - March 14 - April 6
This one was actually covered in last weeks Thursday Theatre Review.

If you know of something else going on this week that you think people should know about please feel free to include it in the comments.
