Five Movember events to check out in Toronto
Movember has become a global phenomenon since the charity was officially formed in Australia back in 2004. Toronto events didn't take hold until 2007, but in the year's since, participation in the moustache-growing ritual has skyrocketed. All in support of prostate cancer awareness and fundraising, in addition to the annual gala, there are a host of other Movember parties and events taking place in Toronto over the next few weeks.
Hunt for the Mo
Not a single event per se, over the course of November T.O. your Mo challenges people to seek out and document the best moustaches on Toronto streets. Should you get the type of photo evidence that inclines people to hit the like button on Facebook a whole lot, you might win the as yet to be revealed grand prize, to be given out at the party described below.
T.O. your Mo Parté
Join the Colts and BF Soul in celebrating an end to your under-nose hair at Wrongbar. Along with the musical performances, your 10 bucks will get you door prizes, a shot at winning some trivia, and a few yet-to-be-disclosed Movember-themed prizes. November 29th, doors open at 8pm
Annual Movember Gala
This year's main event will force you to keep that stache until Decemeber 2nd, if you hope to take home any of the prizes on offer for Movember participants. These include: Best Mo in Character, Miss Movember and, of course, Man of Movember 2011. There will also, of course, be lots of drinks, dancing and other Tom-Foolery. Kool Haus, 10pm.
Movember Bash 2011
Brassaii's Movember bash will feature the usual amenities — drinks, DJs, hors d'oeurves — but the big draw for the moustache grower is the $500 prize for best natural Mo'. Can't grow facial hair? Not to worry, there's a $100 bucks on offer for the best artificial version. November 17th, 9pm.
Black & White Movember Party
This two-themed night will reach its apotheosis in the Movember & Miss Movember competition, where both male and female champions will be crowned. There will also be scores of DJs on hand and and old-school 50/50 draw, for which proceeds will go to Movemeber. Nocturne, November, 26th, 9pm.
