The Weakerthans' John Samson launches a book of poetry tonight at Type Books, entitled "Lyrics and Poems, 1997-2012". This collection contains material spanning from The Weakerthans' debut, "Fallow" through to Samson's current solo effort, "Provincial", plus extra poetry that finds its first official home in this release. Samson's work with The Weakerthans has won a Polaris prize, been nominated for multiple Juno Awards, and Samson himself received the "Outstanding Songwriter" award at the 2004 Western Canadian Music Awards.

LECTURE | SPECTACULAR: USSA's Feminist Porn Symposium and Screening Series
The Undergraduate Sexuality Studies Association hosts a symposium every January, dealing with gender and sexuality. This year's focus is bound to generate some buzz and raise an eyebrow or two: it's the "USSA's Feminist Porn Symposium and Screening Series"! This four day event will consist of screenings by day, and the symposium will occur in the evening. This event is a collaboration with University of Toronto's Trans Film Screening Series of the Centre for Woman and Trans People. In addition to film screenings and guest speakers, artwork by Kitty Stryker, Briar Murowski, and Tanesha McTisey will be on display.

MUSIC | Star Talks: Jane Bunnett: An Evening of Music
Jane Bunnett, one of Canada's most celebrated jazz musicians, talks with reporter John Terauds tonight as part of an evening of music and conversation. Bunnett is well-known for some important associations she forged early in her career, most notably work with Dewey Redman and Don Pullen, as well as her studies with soprano saxophone legend Steve Lacy. She and her husband, Larry Cramer, have also enjoyed a long and fruitful collaborative relationship with some of Cuba's top musicians. Tonight there will be a performance by Bunnett, in the company of Jorge "Papiosco" Torres on congas and Jorge Betancourt on piano.
