Radar: Roadsworth Book Launch, Elbow, Nerdz Weds at Rancho Relaxo with Wordburglar, Jar City, Finding Farley

ART | Roadsworth Book Launch Calling Roadsworth a "graffiti artist" doesn't quite do the man justice. This Montreal native, also known by his 'real' name, Peter Gibson, specializes in transforming the streets, usually using the symbols and markings already in place, to yield new meanings, humour, and commentary on "car culture". Since being arrested in the Fall of 2004, he has been commissioned to produce various works, and public support has been firmly established. Tonight at the Gladstone, art critic R.M. Vaughan interviews the artist about his book, and there will be a slideshow displaying some of his work, as well as a screening of highlights from the documentary "Roadsworth: Crossing The Line."
The Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West) 7:30PM $5/free with book purchase

MUSIC | Nerdz Weds: Wordburglar, Nerds w/ Guitars, Jess McAvoy, Debs and Errol
Tonight at Rancho Relaxo, we are promised a solid musical showcase (as usual), with a little "variety" thrown in the mix! Debs & Errol are an original musical act who call themselves a "musical geek comedy duo", and they also feature themselves in comic strip format on their website - pretty cool! Also on the bill is the rootsy, soulful vibe of Australian singer/songwriter Jess McAvoy, and Nerds With Guitars, a band that has a drop of vintage Barenaked Ladies going on, and straddles that poppy/comic border with style. Closing the evening is the well-known rap talent Wordburglar! A very cool and original lineup!
Rancho Relaxo (300 College Street) 8:30PM $5

FILM | Nordic Nights Presents "Jar City"
"Jar City" is a gripping murder mystery surrounding the death of an elderly man. The investigation into his slaying opens a crazy can of worms that spreads the investigation out well beyond one man's death into some very unexpected places. This award-winning film is based on Scandinavian novelist Arnaldur Indridason's "Mýrin."
NFB Mediatheque (150 John Street) 6PM $10 / $8 students

MUSIC | Elbow @ Sound Academy
Elbow hits town tonight! These UK favourties are touring their early 2011 release, "Build A Rocket, Boys!" and bring their carefully crafted, sonically intriguing post-rock sounds to The Sound Academy tonight. "Build A Rocket, Boys!" is Elbow's fifth album, and it has done nicely on the UK charts. Numerous opening slots for the likes of Coldplay and tons of big festival appearances have helped spread the good word about the great music these boys have to offer.
Sound Academy (11 Polson Street) 8PM $50.75
